Household Sharing & Privacy
Themis Balance truly shines when everyone feels comfortable sharing their financial picture to achieve common goals. Trust and open communication are key. However, we know every household is unique, so here are a few ways to manage privacy.
Approach A: The "Personal Pot"
This is great if you just want a personal fund without detailing every single coffee purchase to the household.
- Report your full income to the household as usual.
- Add a recurring weekly expense called "My Personal Funds" or similar.
The Result: The household balance accurately reflects that the money has been allocated. How you spend that "pot" remains private, as those individual transactions aren't logged in the app.
Approach B: Keeping Specific Transactions Undisclosed
If your goal is to keep certain expenses completely private, here are some considerations.
- For small, infrequent items: Some users may choose not to report them. This will naturally cause minor, often negligible, discrepancies over time.
- For larger items: Intentionally not reporting large expenses can disrupt the shared financial picture. It works against the app's core purpose of creating clarity for everyone.
An Honest Thought From Us
Themis Balance is designed to foster transparency and shared understanding. Actively working around this for significant transactions can make the shared financial picture less clear and might complicate things more than simplify them. We believe the best tool is open conversation about financial comfort levels, and we hope Themis Balance can help start those discussions!
