How Themis Balance Works

The heart of Themis Balance is the weekly balance that is updated by you and the people you share a household with. By regularly keeping it up to date with every financial transaction, you gain a clear understanding of how much money you have available to make confident spending decisions.

The "No Cents" Philosophy

You'll notice all amounts are whole numbers. We believe tracking cents adds complexity without changing the big picture. Simply round up or down—it makes reporting faster and keeps your focus on the figures that truly matter. Read more...

Updating Your Balance (Your Daily Hub)

This is where you'll spend most of your time. The main screen is designed for quick, frequent updates—every time money comes in or goes out. A quick entry of an amount and an optional comment is all it takes to keep your household perfectly in sync.

For less common updates, the "More" button reveals advanced options, like switching between an expense and an income or setting up a Payment Plan for a large purchase.

Automate Your Major Incomes & Expenses

What about big, predictable transactions like salaries, rent, or a mortgage? Entering them as they happen can cause huge swings in your balance, making it hard to know what you can actually spend week-to-week.

The Weekly Budget feature solves this. It takes those large monthly or semi-monthly amounts and breaks them down into steady, weekly updates. Instead of a single -$2000 rent payment, you'll see a predictable -$500 adjustment each week. This smooths out your financial flow and provides a much more realistic picture of your available cash.

Understanding Your History

The "History" screen is your household's shared financial diary. It lists every transaction reported by every member, grouped by day. You can search for specific items, edit amounts or comments if you made a mistake, or delete entries. This transparency is key to keeping everyone on the same page.

Building the Habit: The Key to Success

Themis Balance is most powerful when it becomes a habit. Our data shows that users typically report just 1-3 transactions per day. It’s a small effort that pays huge dividends in financial clarity and success.

To help you build this routine, the app will send a daily reminder for the first 60 days if no one in the household has made an update. Once you're in the rhythm of reporting everything, managing your finances becomes second nature.

Why We Have a Subscription

We're Tiny Titans Tech, a family-operated company from Vaughan, Ontario, that built Themis Balance to solve our own financial challenges. We're sharing it because we genuinely believe it can help others, too.

To keep the app running, secure your data, and continue making improvements, we rely on a subscription. The fees help us pay the electricity bill for the servers and support our small team. If you find Themis Balance valuable, your subscription allows us to keep this tool available for everyone. We've worked hard to set a reasonable price, especially since one subscription covers all users in a household.

Advanced Features for Long-Term Planning

Once you're comfortable with the basics, Themis Balance offers powerful tools for more complex financial situations.

Handling Large One-Off Expenses (Payment Plans)

For a sudden, large expense like a $700 car repair, taking the hit all at once can be stressful. A Payment Plan lets you spread that cost over a set number of weeks, reducing your weekly budget by a smaller, more manageable amount.

Saving for Future Goals

The Savings Goals feature helps you proactively plan for big purchases like a vacation or a new phone by setting up automatic weekly deposits toward a specific goal.
